Politicians always stick their debt to you. They have promised you their cooperation, their willingness to serve public with "perfect" public services, their concern about social welfare, poverty et cetera.
Politicians try to build strong representative relationships with their constituents. They stick to you tightly to maintain their position in government. It's like fleas stick with the dogs to sustain its life.
